Terraform your career one deployment at a time

We chatted to Stanley Turner, our current Devops Manager, to explore the interesting journey to his current role, and what Devops at Digi is all about.

What are some of the roles you have been in during your time with us?

My first role when I started with ForwardSlash in 2006 was as an IT monitor. We were the guys working shifts in IT supporting the call centre staff, also on shift, and making sure all systems were monitored and, in case of any failures, escalated to the relevant person on standby. A role on the IT Support team as a Helpdesk Technician became available, so I applied for it and fortunately was offered the position. This allowed me to be part of the Day Walkers in IT!

After a year there another position on the Web Farm team became available and having escalated calls to these guys while working on shift, I knew a lot of what was required in the position and the systems I would be exposed to, so applying for it was a no-brainer! This team was at the heart of everything that was being hosted in the company and I was exposed to lot and learnt even more, especially since I was directly reporting to, and working with, our current CTO Craig Hovey (the IT Manager at the time). Craig had a massive influence on my work ethic and cultivated the need to see things through to the end. I learnt a huge amount under his guidance. For a few years it was effectively me and Craig looking after the web farm, from travelling to physically build out our numerous datacentres, to being the only guys on standby for the entire web environment.
